Plants
radish
Raphanus sativus L.
Family: Brassicaceae · Genus: Raphanus
Ultra-short-cycle brassica (25–35 days). Pasini lists it in the medium stratum of Tabela 3 (grown as a low-stratum species). Excellent for rotating beds between longer crops; root decompacts the soil.

Where it fits in a guild
Radish takes the Ground cover stratum in the Placenta I phase of succession — in a guild it shares the line with species from the other strata, each harvesting light at its own height, in its own time.

🪴 Cultivation
Very fast-growing plant that prefers light, rich, evenly moist soil; drought-sensitive (the root deteriorates quickly under water stress). Direct-sow in succession, thinning to 5–10 cm between plants in rows ~15 cm apart. Favorable pH 5.8–6.8. Harvest in 21–35 days under ideal conditions (up to 40–50 days in cold). Does not tolerate strong heat, which induces early bolting and toughens the root.
❓ Frequently asked questions
