pinto peanut
Arachis pintoi Krapov. & W.C.Gregory
Family: Fabaceae · Genus: Arachis
perennial peanut, forage peanut
Perennial creeping legume with stolons, 20–40 cm tall. Permanent living mulch, persists under 70% shade. Fixes nitrogen, produces 5–13 t/ha/year of dry matter, suppresses weeds, and attracts pollinators with yellow flowers. The default living-mulch in Cerrado and Atlantic Forest syntropic systems. Full ground cover at 224 days after planting.

Where it fits in a guild
Pinto peanut takes the Ground cover stratum in the Placenta I phase of succession — in a guild it shares the line with species from the other strata, each harvesting light at its own height, in its own time. It also fixes nitrogen, feeding the soil for its line neighbors.
